This is all plant-based and irresistible. The lentils and walnuts give it a meaty texture and along
with spices such as cumin, fresh oregano, garlic and smoked paprika, this is a party in your
mouth. Don’t wait for half-time to sample this one.

Ingredients

1 tsp low sodium tamari
- 1 cup chopped onion
- 3-5 garlic cloves, chopped
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 1 ½ tsp ground cumin
- ½ tsp turmeric (optional)
- ½ crushed red pepper
- 1-2 tsp fresh oregano
- 1½ cups cooked green or brown lentils (3/4 heaping cup lentils dry will yield 1½ cups cooked)
- ½ cup chopped walnuts
- 2 tbsp fresh squeezed lemon juice or apple cider vinegar
- 1 tbsp fresh chopped fresh cilantro or dill
- Salt and pepper to taste

Directions
To a heated saucepan, add the tamari and ¼ cup water. Add the onion, garlic, smoked paprika, cumin and turmeric (if using). Cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring constantly to keep it from burning. If it is too dry, add 1 tbsp additional water. Remove from heat and transfer contents to the food processor.
Add the fresh oregano, cooked lentils, lemon juice, and crushed red pepper to the food processor. Blend until smooth. Transfer to a bowl and stir in chopped cilantro or dill. Serve immediately on crackers with avocado piped on top with cut tomatoes.
