Pizza Sauce

Pizza Sauce
My own freestyle sauce is a forever changing recipe.  This recipe can be made vegan when not using the Italian Sausage.  It's an easy recipe to make and full of flavour from all the herbs and spices.

Ingredients

  • One can of Crushed Tomatoes preferably unsalted
  • One Tomato can full of water
  • 2 Tablespoons of Olive Oil
  • 4 Medium tomatoes diced
  • 1 Medium onion minced
  • 6-10 cloves of garlic pressed vary based on your taste
  • 1 Tablespoon of the following dried herbs:
  • Sweet basil
  • Oregano
  • French Tarragon
  • Marjoram
  • Sage
  • Rosemary
  • Thyme
  • 2 Teaspoons of Maple syrup or Stevia
  • 2 Teaspoons of salt
  • 1/2 Teaspoon of Cayenne pepper optional
  • 1 Teaspoon of cracked pepper
  • 1 Hot Italian sausage cooked drained and shredded, optional

Instructions

  1. Combine all ingredients in a large pot and simmer for 2-3 hours partially covered. Taste along the way to see if any other ingredients are required. If it is too thin, take the top off and simmer uncovered.

Yield: Pizza sauce for two 14” pizzas
